Privacy Policy

Thea Gifting, Inc. ("Thea," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share your information when you use givethea.com and our services.

1. Information We Collect

  • Information you provide. Information you give us when you use Thea, such as your name and email address, details about the people you're shopping for, and other information you enter or save.
  • Your mobile phone number. If you sign up for text-message reminders, we collect the mobile number you give us and a record of your consent — including when you gave it and the wording you agreed to.
  • Information about your use of Thea. Information we collect automatically as you use Thea, such as the pages and products you view, the links and gifts you click and save, searches you run, the features you use, and device and browser details.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. We and our providers use cookies and similar technologies, including for analytics and advertising (see "Advertising, Analytics, and Cookies" below).

We may collect additional information of these kinds as we add new features. If we begin collecting a new category of information, or use your information for a materially different purpose, we will update this policy.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, personalize, and improve our services.
  • Send you updates you've requested, such as gift guides, product news, and reminders. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Send you text-message reminders about dates you've saved, including links to gift ideas, if you've signed up for them.
  • Analyze site traffic and engagement, and measure how our advertising performs.
  • Provide support and keep Thea secure, including preventing fraud and abuse.

3. Advertising, Analytics, and Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies, including third-party analytics and advertising services such as Google Analytics and the Meta pixel, to operate Thea, understand how it's used, and support our marketing. These third parties may collect information about your activity over time and across other websites and apps, and some of your information may be shared with them for advertising and measurement. Most web browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Your mobile number and your text-message consent are never included in this. We do not share them with analytics or advertising partners for any purpose.

Do Not Track: Thea does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals, as there is no common industry standard for them.

If you are in California or Florida, we ask for your consent before loading Google Analytics or the Meta pixel, and we do not load them until you accept. Elsewhere, these load without a prompt — you can still turn them off at any time using the control below.

To tell which region you are in, we look up your IP address against an offline geolocation database. We do not store your IP address or your location for this purpose, and the lookup returns only whether a consent prompt is required. Region detection uses IP geolocation data by DB-IP, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

4. Text Messages (SMS)

Text-message reminders are optional. Signing up for them is never required to use Thea or to buy anything from us, and you never have to give us a phone number.

What we send. If you sign up, we text you when a birthday or event is coming up, and may include a link to gift ideas for that person. Those gift pages contain affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something — see "Affiliate Links" below. We also send a confirmation when you sign up, and a reply if you text HELP.

Signing up. We text only the number you give us, and only after you check the box asking for them.

How often. Frequency depends on the dates you've saved. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan.

Stopping them. Reply STOP to any message — or QUIT, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, END, or simply tell us in your own words. Any clear request to stop works, and we'll act on it. You can also email hello@givethea.com and we'll stop the texts and remove your number.

What we don't do. We don't send abandoned-cart texts, and we don't use your location to decide what or when to text you.

Who helps us send them. We use a messaging platform (Klaviyo) and the telecom providers and wireless carriers it works with. They receive your number only to deliver the message. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

5. Affiliate Links

Our gift guides and recommendations may contain affiliate links to third-party retailers. When you click these links, the retailer may collect information about your visit under its own privacy policy, and we may earn a commission if you make a purchase. We may learn that a purchase was made, but we do not receive your payment details or the personal information you provide to the retailer.

6. How We Share Your Information

This section, and everything else in this policy, excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. Mobile information and SMS opt-in consent are never shared with, sold to, or rented to any third party or affiliate for marketing or promotional purposes, and are not transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We share your number only with the messaging vendors named below, so they can deliver the messages you asked for, and where the law requires us to.

Otherwise, we may share information in the following limited ways:

  • With service providers who help us operate Thea, such as hosting, analytics, and email providers.
  • With the messaging platform, telecom providers, and wireless carriers who deliver your text messages.
  • With analytics and advertising partners, as described in "Advertising, Analytics, and Cookies" above.
  • With affiliate networks that track purchases made through links on our site.
  • When required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, and security.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

7. Your Choices

  • Request access to or deletion of your personal information by emailing hello@givethea.com.
  • Opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any of them.
  • Stop texts by replying STOP to any message, or by telling us in any clear way that you want them to stop.
  • Block or delete cookies through your browser settings.

8. Data Security

We use appropriate measures to protect your information. However, no online service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

Thea is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date above.
